LUCIA CECCHI Lucia Cecchi was born in Viareggio (Lu) in 1960 and now she lives in Prato: after her academic training she started to have an original artistic expressiveness. She began to exhibit from 1998 in many Italian towns. She is a refined artist promoting an aggressive painting ,but at the same time passionate and emotional . She attempts to minimalize, to abstract and synthetize both in her bigger works, her smaller and 3D works . During her artistic course, Lucia Cecchi shifted from academic painting to the carrying out of works made by assembling and plaiting of metals and plastic materials, realising futurist landscapes and shapes . Then, her artistic search shifted to “ Computer Art “ ,but later on, it came back to her recent works using colours and materials to improve and to personalize her conceptual code. Her last works are the series “Oroscuro” ( Darkgold ) that she showed recently at the Café “Giubbe Rosse” in Florence ; they are works where, besides clean colours and bitumen pouring stand out gold leaves or mosaic gold flashes . Generally her artistic expression is creative, abstract and material: she alternates between the creation of installation ,made of plaiting of metallic nets and plastic materials ,and the creation of painting works ,with rough and hard-fought surfaces where colours and attached materials through many alchemies , from corrosion ,laceration and texture wanted. Lucia Cecchi can be described as a great material manipulator ; in fact she chooses ,she cuts, she composes pieces of fabric, paper , plastic , metal , poor materials ruined by everyday life . Her works are characterized by a careful chromatic search and by the use of recycled materials : colour , material lumps, scrap of newspaper or fabric ( overall bale ) ; all recycled objects or their fragments recovered become elements for a new address and they are used like precious mosaic tesserae . The artist substitutes the pleasure of harmonic composition to the existential emotivity of the gesture , everything well celebrated in all its parts ,doing an inlay work where nothing is left to chance. In her works she shows neither a world that is dissolving nor she uses recycled material to argue against consumer society ,but she tries to arouse in the observer the sense of the beauty of nature , that can be showed even through small fragments . Lucia Cecchi’s painting is instinctive ,from her works comes out the search of freedom in expression to free herself from the functional restrictions destructuring shapes , intended on objects ,to open to the insight of the mind . Lucia Cecchi’s abstraction comes from testing and adapting what historical avanguards left to contemporary language; particularly we can find marks of the European informal style , “Action painting” and “poor art “ influences . We can also prove that at first sight , many of her canvas evoke Alberto Burri’s informal research ,done from the post-war period. In the whole production of Lucia Cecchi , the surface of each work is a space that tells you many stories: some are simultaneous stories which are intertwined, some are marks of life, all showed in an anti-narrative dimension, in her hermetic symbolism.
